After a career of over 20 years in marketing, corporate strategy, consulting and executive leadership in the medical and chemical products industries, Joy left corporate life in 2001 to pursue her passion for animals. She spent several years as a full-time volunteer for the Humane Society of Missouri, where she worked primarily with large dogs on socialization and basic obedience to improve their chances for successful adoption. During her time with the Humane Society, she attended several behavior and obedience training courses and also volunteered one day a week in the veterinary clinic assisting with surgical and post-op care of dogs and cats. Of course, she couldn’t resist adding several shelter dogs to her family during this time, including Sylvie, a poodle who was rescued in a puppy mill raid and Rusty, a shepherd mix. After moving to Houston in 2003, Joy worked for several years as an independent consultant in the biomedical industry. She joined the Rover Oaks staff in April 2005 and worked initially at the Houston location in customer service, doggie daycare, pet care management and as Director of Operations. Joy and Steve Smith (to the right) became partners in Rover Oaks Katy in late 2005 and worked throughout 2006 to oversee the construction and operations of the new Katy facility. Joy has a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Smith College in Northampton, MA and an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis, and has completed Levels I and II of the Outstanding Pet Care Learning Center courses.   Joy lives in Houston with husband Tom and six rescued canine kids.

steve-smithSteve Smith, Director of Operations
Steve is the Director of Operations at Rover Oaks Pet Resort. In the late 1990’s Steve, like many pet owners, began to recognize the need for a world-class pet resort in Houston where owners could leave their furry family members and have confidence in the quality of care they would receive. Partnering with a local dog trainer who brought the concept of a pet resort to his attention, Steve began researching the pet care industry, surveying local pet owners, developing a solid business plan, and planning a state-of-the-art facility. Nearly two years later, the first Rover Oaks Pet Resort location (i.e., Rover Oaks Houston) opened its doors on October 15, 2001, and Rover Oaks Katy followed on September 11, 2006. Steve has a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s degree in exercise science from Wake Forest University. Prior to his entry into the pet world, Steve enjoyed a very successful career in corporate health promotion where he was responsible for managing fitness and wellness centers for companies including Coca-Cola, Minute Maid, Abbott Laboratories, Enron, Chevron, and Citibank. He also held a full-time position as consultant to the National Center of the American Heart Association for three years prior to entering the doggy world.  Steve and his wife Patti live with Bentley, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and their loveable rescue Rayford.  Kodak and Fresca, their beloved German Shepherds, and Perky (all pictured above) traveled over the rainbow several years ago.

Assistant General Manager

After years in corporate Human Resources Management, Amy joined the Rover Oaks team as a 2011 as a Customer Service Representative. In 2013, Amy began managing our Training Department and in 2017 she became Assistant General Manager. As a volunteer for the Women’s Humane Society in Bensalem, PA from 1996 -2000, she fell in love with and adopted her first Afghan Hound, Cory.  Amy relocated to Katy, TX in 2000, and has since spent many years as a volunteer with Citizens for Animal Protection and Afghan Hound Rescue.  She currently shares her home with two Afghans (Harley and Thor), a Sheltie mix (Wyatt), and four cats (Remus, Mitzi, Lucy and Casey).  She can often be found at the dog parks in Katy and participating in the Meet the Breed events at the annual Reliant Dog Shows every July.

Pet Care Manager

Karen started her career in pet care services in 2000.  She worked at a vet clinic as a pet care technician while she attended school.  In 2001 she graduated 3rd in her class from the Veterinarian Paramedic program at HCC.  Upon graduating she gained a position as a veterinary technician.  For the next several years she learned many things at several different clinics about all aspects of pet wellness, diseases, medical treatments and emergency care.  She started with Rover Oaks in 2006 as a part-time Pet Care Supervisor.  She was able to use her knowledge of pet medical care to provide excellent service to the pets lodging at our facility.  Working at Rover Oaks has enabled her to learn a vast amount of information on animal behavior with self study and working very closely with the training staff. She was promoted this year to Pet Care Manager and continues learn and grow for the benefit of the pets and employees in her charge.  Karen lives in Sealy with her husband of 26 years, 2 sons, 10 dogs, 3 cats and 5 chickens. 


BrynneBrynne Gallman Feldman
Community Relations Manager

Brynne joined the Rover Oaks team in 2011 as Community Relations Manager.  She has widespread experience in marketing, advertising, social media and event planning with companies such as Houston Press, Texas Monthly, Convio and Austin Film Festival. She realized her passion for animals while volunteering with Town Lake Animal Center in college; and now has her dream job where she can combine her experience in marketing and advertising with her love for pets! Brynne is proudly owned by a silly French Bulldog, Leela, who can usually be found napping in her lap while she works in her office. Brynne is a Texas native and attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she received degrees in Advertising and Business.
