Rover Oaks Pet Resort offers a variety of training and education programs that will enhance your relationship with your pet and increase your understanding of pet behavior and pet care. Since pet training and behavior issues can be very complex, Rover Oaks is fortunate to have Shannon Smith as Director of Training at both locations. Shannon has been training since 1993 and has provided obedience training, therapy dog training, K-9 dog training, and behavior counseling to thousands of clients in Texas.
A few basic commands can make the difference between a dog that is out of control and a dog that is a pleasing companion. At Rover Oaks we train the dogs on these commands and help them learn other "good manners" through our Obedience Classes, Board & Train program, and Private Lesson program. Training Programs
Obedience Classes: Rover Oaks offers basic and intermediate obedience training classes during weekday evenings for small groups of dogs and their owners. The basic class focuses on on-leash commands including sit, down, stay, heel and come when called. The intermediate class is for dogs that have already completed a basic class at Rover Oaks, and it features more complex distraction training and compliance to commands at a distance. This class also provides a good foundation for owners interested in progressing to off-leash work. A pre-class evaluation will be required for any dog registering for the intermediate class if it has not completed the basic class at Rover Oaks. Board & Train: Board & Train is the perfect option for customers who prefer a professional trainer to provide expert one-on-one obedience training for their pet companions. Rover Oaks boards each pet for 2 weeks, and our trainer works with the guest several times each day until its basic commands are learned. Well-behaved pets are returned to their owners during our transfer lesson program. Necessary dog-handling techniques are demonstrated, reviewed and practiced with all owners.
Private Lessons: For customers who need additional flexibility, Rover Oaks offers private obedience training lessons that are tailored to your specific needs and scheduled at a convenient time.
Refresher Training: Pets that have graduated from our various training programs can benefit from refresher sessions when they stay at Rover Oaks while Mom and/or Dad are away.
Puppy Classes
Our expert trainers at Rover Oaks Houston and Rover Oaks Katy also offer several options for those parents who have new puppies entering the home. If you're having problems with housetraining, excessive mouthing and biting, and chewing, or if you want to begin early socialization and learn when to begin basic obedience training, call Rover Oaks Houston or Rover Oaks Katy to discuss your specific needs. Behavior Counseling
Canine Behavior is more of an issue today than it needs to be. Because of numerous requests for behavioral counseling on bossy, out of control, destructive dogs, Rover Oaks is offering seminars to help people solve the problems they encounter with their dogs. By tapping into your dog's inherited "pack instincts" and using these to your advantage, you can slowly but consistently reverse the dominant role your dog may have taken and re-shape its behavior.
